On Thursday 22nd and Friday 23rd September more than 180 people, including fire prevention specialists, experts and local residents interested in joining our cause, came together at the 1st Technical Conference of the Community for the Prevention of Forest Fires. The conference took place in the Cotesma community centre in San Martín de Los Andes and in the home of the Sociedad Rural de Neuquén.
Over the two days, we shared information, experiences and advice between professionals and experts, with the aim of fortifying local fire prevention and preparing ourselves as best as possible for the wildfire season while learning about the structure of firefighting systems.
We are grateful for the support of the Municipality of San Martín de los Andes and the Sociedad Rural de Neuquén, and for the participation of the Chilean National Forestry Corporation, the National Fire Management Service, the firefighting organisations of Neuquén and Río Negro, the National Parks, the firefighters of San Martín de los Andes, Junín de los Andes and Meliquina, provincial government authorities, estancia managers and civil organisations, like the Rotary Club and the Radales Neighbourhood Association, and delegates from the Mapuche communities Curruhuinca and Cayun.
