FIRE DOES NOT DISCRIMINATE Y, FOR THIS REASON, IT IS A UNIVERSAL PROBLEM WITH THE POTENTIAL TO UNITE US TO PREVENT AND FIGHT AGAINST IT.
Owing to climate change, every year brings more fires. Forest and rural fires affect everybody equally, no matter if they are estancia owners, rural labourers, Mapuches, tourist business owners, etc. For that reason, we are committed to working on the prevention of and fight against fires.
Our areas of work are:
• Fire prevention
• Logistical support
• Training
• Early detection and rapid response
OUR CONTRIBuTION TO THE PREVENTION OF FOREST FIRES:
- We created the first Fire Prevention and Logistical Support Brigade to fight fires, formed of young people from Mapuche communities
- We organized the first Forest Fire Prevention Conference
- We established a Training and Fire Monitoring Base
- We launched the first Fire Fighting and Prevention Network
- We created the application Fire Alert and we publish a daily risk index
IN ORDER TO STRENGTHEN FIRE FIGHTING SYSTEMS, WE HAVE MADE THE FOLLOWING DONATIONS:
A collapsable tank to the Volunteer Firefighters of both San Martín de los Andes and Junín de los Andes.
Billboards highlighting the risk of forest fires at the entrance to our base on Ruta 40, in the Riscos and Hadel neighbourhoods and in the Curruhuinca Mapuche Community.
